Why your emails don't convert

blog-curve-grey-top

Your emails aren't working.

You spend hours crafting the perfect message. You hit send. And then... silence.

Sound familiar? I’ve been there. It’s a rite of passage for most email marketers. Not every campaign hits it’s mark. However, I do know why they don’t convert.

Most email conversion problems come down to three issues. Fix these, and you'll see your numbers change.

Problem #1: You've lost your audience

There's no connection between you and the people reading your emails.

Maybe you scraped contacts from LinkedIn without building relationships first. Or you bought a cold list (please don't do this). Or it's been months since you last emailed your subscribers.

Don’t take offence: people forget about you. They change jobs. Their interests shift. About 10% of your list naturally churns each year.

The fix: Start building relationships again. Get back to lead generation. And actually email your subscribers.

These people signed up to hear from you. Give them what they want.

Problem #2: Your emails blend into the noise

When someone opens their inbox, they make split-second decisions:

  • Who is this from? • What's in it for me?
  • What's this about?

If you're failing any of these tests, you're not making it past the subject line.

You're invisible. Just another email in a sea of corporate jargon and boring headlines.

The fix: Be yourself. Skip the corporate speak. Let your personality show through.

Build recognition by emailing consistently. Create subject lines that grab attention. Make people remember you.

Problem #3: You're not giving clear direction

This is the big one.

You've got someone's attention. They're reading your email. And then... nothing. No clear next step. No reason to act now.

Weak calls-to-action like "I happened to have this for you" don't work.

But when you say: "I've got this offer that I'm excited about because it'll help you get X results—but it's only available until Friday"...

Now people pay attention.

The fix: Every email needs a clear purpose. Give people a deadline. Explain exactly why they should care right now.

The energy factor

Don’t forget to “wow” them.

If you're not excited about your offer, scrap it. If you're not energized by your audience, find a better one.

You're spending most of your life building this business. You owe it to yourself to do work that lights you up.

That excitement shows up in every word you write. And it's contagious.

Making every email count

You earn trust with each email you send.

You can't coast on past performance. Each message is a fresh chance to provide value, build relationships, and drive conversions.

Your strategy should be:

  • Aligned with what your audience actually wants
  • Different from everyone else in their inbox
  • Direct about what you want them to do next
  • Energetic about the value you're providing
